The beginning

When I was a new mom, I decided that I needed to do whatever it took to be the best mom possible. I had felt a strong calling from God when I was pregnant with our first child that He wanted me to give up my life to focus mainly on raising our kids. This meant (I thought) that I needed to read lots of parenting books, marriage books, Christian growth books, theology books, health books, and the list went on. Of course, this was not realistic, and I was quickly discouraged at my lack of ability to do all of this. How was I going to be the mother God had called me to be without enriching myself with all of these resources? During a desperate moment while I was pouring my heart out to God, I heard this; “Deanne, I know everything there is to know about everything. And I can teach you everything you need to know for My purpose in your life. The only thing that you MUST do is spend time with me EVERY day. What Eden needs is a transformed you. And only I can do that.” Why was I trying so hard to become an expert in so many things rather than getting to know the Expert Himself?

I’ve come to realize through this journey of hyper focusing on my relationship with God that most of the transforming has to do with my mind (Romans 12:2). Which leads me to why my husband and I are starting this blog. The world is full of so much to put into our minds. There are endless articles and blog posts to read, endless updates on Facebook to catch up on, endless TV shows to watch on Netflix.   If we want to be transformed by God and hear His leading, we have to be intentional about putting our minds on things that will amplify His voice in our lives. My husband and I wanted to create a blog that was full of things that are based on Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praise worthy—think about such things.”

We don’t know exactly what this blog will look like. But we hope to deliver content that will help others be transformed by God so that they can live as closely to His will as possible. So here goes the beginning of Whatever Is…
